VAIL, Colorado — Richard Paradis, aka Dick Dime, helped local Colorado bands make it in the valley, and now three of these bands have the chance to return

2009 Austin Marathon

Had a pretty good race up until about mile 23. Can’t complain though. There were some pretty tough rollers at the end.

Even though it is still a week out, I’m getting excited. Gary is running down in Phoenix this weekend to get that Boston Qualifier. He has put in the mileage, the appropriate workouts and has dropped the Ted mandated 10+ pounds. Gary you are ready for a huge PR and the well deserved BQ. Also, there is tracking for this race so we can follow our Capitan through the race. click here to view website

Good luck, my man!

2008 California International Marathon

Justin cruised to an easy 2:51:35. His comment to me was that he’s probably in “2:47-ish” shape as he hit this time despite 3-4 stops along the way to work out a cramp and tie his shoes. Some poor pre-race planning cost him a pair of pants and a couple of t-shirts, but Justin is now officially qualified for Boston in April and his 2:40 mission begins today….or maybe next week. Nice work J.

Rock Canyon Half Marathon

El Capitan, PR’d in the half marathon down in Pueblo this weekend, by over a minute and in the process took it down under 1:30. He ran a time of 1:29:17. Along the way he ran a PR for 10 miles (he beat his old pr by about 2 minutes) and just missed medaling in the 35-39 age goup. This is a definite positive indicator of his fitness going into his Boston Qualifier on January 18th down in Phoenix. Very nice job Gary and once I can stand up for more than five minutes at a time, I’ll jump out and help you on some workouts before next month.

I don’t know a whole lot that about ironman triathlons, but those are some pretty damn fast times. There were over 2000 competitors and 115 DNF’s. So for us, “just runners”, it just shows you how tough of an event it is when over 5% of the race drops out. You guys are amazing, I know what it takes to just train for a mathon so I can’t even begin to (imagine) the work and dedication it takes to pull this off. Very nice job, fellas, you did AA proud.

Also, here is a cool little writeup on Richard.

Chatfield Five & Dime

November 15, 2008 10-mile Race Results
Reported by Justin

This weekend, Gary jumped in a little 10 miler and pulled off a spectacular run to take down the 35-39 age group championship. It was a very solid performance. He came through the first half of the race in about 33:30 (6:42). The course up to this point was all on a windy(meandering not moving air windy) trail that paralleled the S Platte River as it flows into Chatfield Reservoir. The eventually overall female champion was right on his heels. At this point she passed him. For the next 2 miles or so, Gary’s mind wandered as he tailed what had to be the greatest ass on earth. After refocusing, the second half was on a pretty chewed up horse trail that followed a course of a series rolling hills that looped back around to the start. The second half was run in just under 36 minutes.

2008 Denver Marathon

Denver Marathon, Half-Marathon, and ING Marathon Relay
10/19/2008 – Denver, CO

Reported by: Justin
Big day yesterday, as I saw 4 members of AA tear it up yesterday at the Denver Marathon and half.

I started my spectating at about 10 miles and saw Clint just lighting it up through the park. Looked very strong and finished the half marathon in 1:21 and a top 25 finishing. Not to mention a 2nd place age group award:

Clint Boston – Half Marathon | Bib 6243 | DENVER, CO – USA | Male 40-44 | Age 40

Next up the marathon, first off, this course is definitely not easy. You wouldn’t think that it is a super hilly course, but in fact the whole thing is hilly. Not one hill in itself is very tough, but over 26 miles of rolling hills and steady inclines, it takes a lot out of you. Not to mention, altitude and it got about 70 doesn’t help.

Krebs, Dime, and Ted were all within 2 minutes of each other at mile 10 and held tight through mile 15 when I picked them up again. Krebs of course was all chatter and as excited as a 16 year old girl going to prom. I am trying to think back to any marathon where I looked and felt like I had just started running. He seriously looked like he had just stepped onto the course. Although in the finish chute I did detect a little bit of a limp, hopefully it was just typical, I just ran a marathon soreness. I am in awe of this guy, he just ran Boulder Backroads a couple of weeks ago and here he is right back at it.

Then came Ted, I started running with him to try and take some of the load, he was looking very strong at this point and was hovering right around that 2:50 area. We hit wash park and you could tell that this was Ted’s home court. I think every woman Ted has ever known and even some he didn’t were cheering him on. Apparently Ted had some troubles at the start the gun time was a little slow, but he was still holding 6:40s through the park and started reeling some people in. At 21 the hills started to get to him and he faded a bit through to the end. Ted all I can say is, it was one of those days. Your fitness level is way faster than 2:50, but in a marathon you don’t have many perfect days, but a marathon can fail in many different ways. I know it wasn’t in preparation and the next time out you will hit that time.

Then came Richard, he passed Ted at about 21 at the same exact pace he had been running since I saw him at mile 10. He just kept plugging along at 6:40-50s I could feel him fading somewhere between 23 and 24, but that man is tough and he pushed through those last couple of miles without dropping much time. Most of us know what those last miles feel like and how easy it is to quit when it hurts that bad, and only a few of us can push through that pain – Nice work Richard.

California International Marathon Training Schedule

Found a training schedule for CIM:

The 2008 California International Marathon is scheduled for Dec. 7, several months away, but in relative terms to potential participants, just around the corner. To help runners prepare for the event, Rich Hanna, director of Capital Road Race Management, developed an 18-week training schedule, designed to get runners in optimal condition for the run from Folsom to the state Capitol.
